In this study, a new approach is proposed in the calculation of performance characteristics of elliptic bearings of Multi-Shearing-Surface (MSS) type which has widely been used yet. The number of researches available in this area are far below the needs. This paper presents the proposed approach and the performance of bearings without use of superposition.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processes are very new in Turkey. The Government of Turkey, due to diversification of supply and balancing of seasonal load, decided to import LNG from Algeria. The first shipment in Marmara Ereğli import terminal has been carried out in the August the 3 rd, 1994. LNG after regasification will be injected into the main transmission pipeline. The share of LNG in the world natural gas trade was approixmately 22.1% in 1988. According to the forecast, LNG share will be rapidly spreading all over the world in near future. In this paper, treatment, liquefaction, transport, storage, regasification, distribution and utilisation of LNG are examined. Particular attention has given into liquefaction of natural gas.

Classification of wear process can be done according to different viewpoints. Wear mechanisms should not be mixed with wear types. Study of tribology must incorporate a detailed understanding of the mechanics of contact of solid bodies. In most contact situations, it is found mixture of both elastic plastic deformations. Thus, the loads applied to solids in contact may induce elastic behaviour in the bulk of the solid bodies, localised plastic deformation at asperity tips and affects wear properties of the mechanical system.

5. FLEXURAL AND COMPRESSION PROPERTIES OF PARTICULATE REINFORCED POLYESTER COMPOSITES

In this study, having reinforced polyester matrix with various of compositions Al2 O3 and graphite particulate, the composites materials was manufactured. It was taken as a parameter volume fraction of Al2 O3 and graphite particulate which is varied 1, 2, 3, 4 % at manufactured both composites. A series tests were carried out examining changes of flexural and compression strengths depending on volume fraction reinforced with Al2 O3 and graphite particulate. Having taken from the literature the tensile strength and wear resistance of the same materials, in order to present mechanical properties of manufactured composite materials were obtained all the data. In this manner, being alternative materials for designers and having advantages of being cheap and easy manufactured, the materials mentioned above will be chosen under the conditions evaluated depending on mechanical properties.

6. EFFECTS OF SOME BORON COMPOUNDS AND/OR WATER REPELLENTS ON THE HIGROSCOPICITY OF BRUTIA PINE (Pinus brutia Ten.) WOOD

As a water borne salt type, boron salts also tend to increase in hygroscopicity of wood. This phonomenon is known as one of the disadvantages of these salts in wood preservation in spite of their protective effectiveness against biological agents and fire. This study was designed to determine the rate of higroscopicity both treated and untreated Brutia pine wood. Impregnation solutions of boric acid (BA) and sodium perborate (SP) was prepared by water and polyethylene glycol (PEG)-400 (P4). Additionally, some water repellents (WRs) such as paraffin wax (P), styrene (St), methylmethacrylate (MMA) and isocyanate (ISO) were used to keep the hygroscopicity level of wood at an acceptable level. Results indicated that paraffin wax and WRs were considerably lowered the hygroscopicity of wood. 4 homogenity groups were formed from the statistical analysis as follows (from the most hygroscopic treatments to lesser, respectively): (1) P4, (2) P4+BA or SP, control, (3) WRs, BA or SP+WRs and, (4) P+BA+Bx (% 15 aqueous solution). None of the solutions increased the hygroscopicity of wood than control treatments, but P4 (P? 0.05).

7. SOME PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF DIFFERENT AGRICULTURAL WASTES

Some physical and chemical properties of tobacco dust, grape marc and mushroom compost, which contain high organic matter, were as plant growth medium investigated. According to research results, the some physical properties of all wastes were found insufficient, although, nutrient contents were found very high.

8. A RESEARCH ON SOIL FERTILITY AND OTHER PROBLEMS AT BURHANİYE VICINITY

The research was carried out with aim of determining fertility and other problems in the vicinity of Burhaniye. The research soils are alluvial soils. The climate is moderate and semi humid. The vegetation are agricultural plants. The topography is almost smooth. Dominant soil farming processes are weak calcification and podsolization, eluviasyon, illuviasyon, loss, translocation and synthesis. The aspect of horizonation is weak. Hydraulic conductivity classes are moderately slow, medium and moderately speed. Drainage classes are medium and poor. Texture classes are medium, moderately fine and fine. These soils are insaline soils. Reaction classes are slightly alkali and moderately alkali. Calcareous classes are trace, few and moderately few. Organic matter classes are very few, few, medium and high. Phosphorus and potassium classes are very few, few, medium and high. In addition some fertility, soil management and other related problems are exist. For example forming of compacting and plow pan.
