| 2. | Determination of Quality Properties in Labneh Produced with Probiotic Culture Tuğba Kök Taş, Duygu Duru, Mehmet Akif Şahin doi: 10.5505/pajes.2014.57070 Pages 240 - 243 The recent years, functional food market has been dramatically growing due to the increasing number of conscious consumers. More products in the field of functional foods include dairy products. Diversity of functional foods that are very popular in the world are very limited in Turkey. Use of probiotic microorganisms in dairy products are provided positive contribution to public health. Probiotic products are featured in many studies to affect the intestinal immune system, regulating the immune system. The aim of this reseach was to use probiotic starter culture to improve functional properties of Labne that is a very nutritious dairy product and preferred by children and youths. The quality properties (chemical, microbiological and sensorial) of Labneh were determined. pH value and lactic acid of Labneh sample with yogurt culture and Labneh sample produced with Lactobacillus acidophilus culture were determined 4.53 and 4.58; 0.52 and 0.53, respectively. Labneh sample containing probiotic culture had 21% fat and 29.38% total solid. Labneh sample with probiotic culture contained 8.97 log cfu/ml as content of L. acidophilus. Result of sensory analyses showed that Labneh sample produced using L. acidophilus had higher taste, odor and texture scores. |
| 3. | A Statistical Investigation into the Determining Woven Fabric Defects That Occur on Raw Terry Fabrics During Weaving Production Deniz Mutlu Ala, Yüksel İkiz doi: 10.5505/pajes.2014.64936 Pages 244 - 252 In this study, the number of specific woven fabric defects occured on raw terry fabrics during weaving production were investigated with statistical process control techniques. Raw fabrics of a selected standart fabric production were inspected for defect detection after weaving operation in a towel production company. Defects were detected by inspection of fabric on a lighted control board by experienced experts. Number of defects were noted on quality control charts. Applying pareto analysis, defects were revealed that formed 80% of total defects. Cause-effect diagrams and p control charts were created and solution suggestions to avoid these defects were presented keeping in mind that eliminating elementary causes, which is 20% of total problems, can resolve 80% of resources of problems. |
| 4. | Investigation of the Solubilities of Sulfated and Ground Phosphate Rock after Sulfation in H2SO4 Solution Melike Sınırkaya, Kadir Özer, Şahin Gülaboğlu doi: 10.5505/pajes.2014.19484 Pages 253 - 257 In this study, the effects of temperature and acid concentration on the dissolution of the sulfated and ground after sulfation phosphate samples in sulfuric acid solution obtained after flue gas desulfurization were investigated and the results were compared for both samples. It was observed that the dissolution rate increased as the temperature and acid concentration increased during the dissolution of sulfated and ground after sulfation phosphate samples. It was shown that the dissolution reaction can be divided into two regions, with different rate controlling steps for both samples. The controlling step was determined as pseudo-first order reaction at low conversions and diffusion through the product (ash) layer at high conversions. |

Kinetic parameters were determined using linear and non-linear methods. In addition, the surface morphologies of cryogel and hydrogel structures were characterized using by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). All results obtained from analyses were comparatively evaluated. |
| 6. | Non-Isothermal Calcination Kinetics of Phosphate Rock Hatice Bayrakçeken, Jale Naktiyok, Hüseyin Okur, A. Kadir Özer, M. Şahin Gülaboğlu doi: 10.5505/pajes.2014.67044 Pages 266 - 271 The kinetics of thermal decomposition of the phosphate rock was studied by means of thermal analysis techniques (TG/DTG) in inert nitrogen (N2) atmosphere at heating rates of 2, 5, 10, and 20 K min-1. TG and DTG measurements indicated that calcination of the phosphate rock has single-stage degradation in between 873-1173 K. Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose (KAS) and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) isoconversional methods were applied to the data obtained from TG and DTG curves and the activation energies were found as 170 ve 187 kJmol-1, respectively. It was determined that the thermal decomposition mechanism of phosphate rock was occurred via nucleation and growth (-ln(1-α)2/3) mechanism. Pre-exponentional factor (lnA) was determined as 20.47. |

Artificial neural networks systems are research techniques that are trying to contribute to these developments. There are a lot of researches in literature about analysing relationship between clothing comfort and parameters of fabrics using statistical methods. On the other hand, there are some limitations in using them. One of the most common problems encountered in statistical modelling is non-linear relationship between clothing comfort and the parameters of fabrics. Artificial neural networks systems are known trying to make prediction considering all the impact of the parameters together. In this study, a literature research was performed about using artificial neural networks in prediction of clothing comfort. |

Additionally they can also be used for sound absorption applications with different pore geometry. In this study, the effect of fabric parameters like material type, fabric thickness and surface structures on the sound absorption properties of circular knitted spacer fabrics was investigated and aimed to determine the optimum fabric parameters for better sound absorption. |
